The Night Owl Mom

The house is asleep and this is my time.

The house is asleep and this is my time.

am a night owl.  I wish I were a morning person.  I have tried and tried to become a morning person.  I thought that when I started working that magically some switch would go off and I would become a morning person.  Nope.  Didn’t happen.

I thought that after I had my first child I would become a morning person.  Nope.  Turned out, neither was my daughter!  She loved sleep as much as me!  LOL!  She would peacefully stay up at night cuddling in our arms and then sleep and snuggle until we felt like getting out of bed.  I relished that time.  I had people tell me, “Just wait!  Not all babies love to sleep…just wait…you’ll be a morning person yet!”

When my son was born I finally experienced that alarm clock child that people had always told me about.  My son wakes up at 6:30 a.m. all sunshine and smiles everyday.  LOL!  If I put him to bed at 7:30 p.m., he wakes up at 6:30 a.m.  If I put him to bed at 11:30 p.m. he wakes up at 6:30 a.m.  I thought that perhaps this might change me into a morning person.  Nope!  LOL!  I try and coax him into a few more blissful moments of rest, but then resign to the fact that the morning has started and we begin the day:-)

As a result, I still have maintained my night owl-ism.  I relish in the time when our house is peaceful and quiet.  When everyone has gone to sleep for the night, I know that I have until 6:30 a.m. when my little alarm clock will wake up.

I think the fact that there is SO MUCH time at night, is the reason why so many parents ARE night owls.  We night owls know that we have so many HOURS to accomplish things.  What do we do you ask?  Well…it’s not very glamorous.  My night owl hours are filled with finishing up dinner dishes, picking up toys, paying bills, folding laundry, cruising Facebook, watching TV shows that are not on PBS Kids, and sometimes even enjoying a bowl of ice cream without sharing.  I use that time to reconnect with myself and my husband.

I love my children with all my heart.  I love my quiet time as well.

I may try an experiment someday to try being a morning person for one whole week.  But…until then, my espresso machine is loaded for tomorrow morning:-)

Remember…They Will Love Your Effort<3

Hi! My name is Dominique and I’m lucky enough to be the wife to my True Love and mother to a little girl and a little boy. I grew up in the Midwest but have loved living in NC, our new home.

I’m actually an Industrial Engineer by schooling, but am now a domestic engineer(Stay-at-home-Mom) and feel very blessed to have this job.

I have always loved the challenge in making the most of things…whether it’s figuring out that a filing cabinet , a $10 piece of countertop and a few scraps of wood can be turned into a desk, that a curtain sheer, some ribbon, and a square piece of fabric can be transformed into an Elsa-like dress, or how to provide an interesting lunch for my little girl who is in a peanut free classroom. I love to figure things out and to create.

I hope you enjoy reading my posts. I hope that my posts will inspire you to create. I hope that with my posts you will see that They Will Love Your Effort, whether things turn our perfect or not;-)
